CAESAREA
Built by Herod on the shores of the Mediterranean and named after Caesar
Augustus. Caesarea was one of the most splendid cities of
the ancient world, filled with all the luxuries that constituted Graeco-Roman
culture. Excavations
have revealed the remains of a hippodrome, and amphitheatre, a
theatre and hot baths. Today Caesarea is visited daily
by tourists from Israel and abroad who come to marvel at the Crusader
fortress, the Byzantine statues and the
marketplace. There is a golf course, hotel and many
luxurious villas in modern Caesarea, all testifying to the wealth
and development of this old/new seaside town. Restaurants and cafes
provide excellend meals and refreshments for
those who wish to relax by the sea.
