BEIT SHEAN
This
was an important town until the late Middle Ages. Eighteen layers of cities
have been unearthed by archaeologists
- the Roman layer probably being the most impressive.
A superb amphitheatre, wide streets adorned with marble columns,
and the largest Roman theatre in the country have all been revealed at this
fascinating archaeological site.
The development town of Beit Shean is being
transformed from a sleepy backwater to a prominent tourist attraction
as the reconstruction of the great Roman
town goes forward by leaps and bounds.
